The Mouawad Mondera is a 60.19 carat D Flawless pear shape The stone was set as the center of a bra, pictured below, modeled by Karolina Kurkova. The green and pink floral pattern is actually emeralds and rubies and the total caratweight of the piece is about 320 carat.

Not much is known about the early history of the diamond, but the finished stone made its first appearance on the 16th of November, 2000, at a Christie’s auction in Geneva, and after successful bidding was purchased by Robert Mouawad for 7,160,000 Swiss francs equivalent to about US $ 5,360,000. Thus Robert Mouawad enriched his impressive collection, with another world-class gem.

The interests of Robert Mouawad, who is a world-class jeweler and entrepreneur, goes beyond the creation of fine jewelry and collection of world-famous historical and modern diamonds. The Mouawad family’s contribution of 6.8 million dollars to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), helped to bolster the funds of the institute, and provided a much-needed boost to it’s activities, including the providing of scholarship to gemologists from around the world, to study at the GIA. campus, in Carlsbad, California. The campus was named the Robert Mouawad Campus in recognition of the family’s generous donation to the Institute.

In addition to this Robert Mouawad founded a private museum , in the heart of downtown Beirut, the capital city of his motherland. This museum has a unique collection of both ancient and modern jewelry, items of metal work, Chinese porcelain and carpets. Besides this, it also houses a large collection of antiquities and Islamic pottery, and books and icons.
