The Pam Brilliant

The Pam Brilliant

The 56.6 carat Pam Brilliant was cut from a piece of rough weighing around 115 carat, found at the famous Jagersfontein Mine in South Africa in 1891. It attracted the attention of Queen Victoria, who requested is shown to her at Osborne House. The Queen started negotiating to buy the diamond for the Duke of Clarence (her grandson) and heir to the throne, who was engaged to marry Princess Mary of Teck (later Queen Mary). The untimely death of the Duke in 1892 prevented the sale from going through.

As with a lot of legendary diamonds, the whereabouts of this piece of history is unknown.
