The Baden Solitaire

May 24th, 2013

The Baden Solitaire

The Baden Solitaire weighing in at 30 carat was one of the Crown Jewels in the Imperial Austrian Schatzkammer. It featured prominently in one of Empress Maria Theresa’s pearl necklaces. It consisted of a single string of 114 large size pearls with the “Baden Solitaire” as a clasp. Three of the pearls weighed from 92 to 100 grains each, and the whole string had a total weight of 3400 grains.

The Austrian Royal Family took it with them into exile in Switzerland in 1918.

It was reported stolen by a friend of the family and taken to South America.

As with a lot of famous diamonds, there is not record of its current ownership of location.
